A while back now my wife decided she was going to start a YouTube channel so of course it fell to me to do all the shooting and editing of her videos!
As her productivity increased she began utilizing some of her other staff to help with the process.
That turned out to be a double edged sword!
There was way less for me to do on her videos which was a good thing but!
In the office it all descended very quickly into a morass of disorganization with half done shooting and editing projects spread out all over the place and no real way of working out what was happening.
There were multiple copies of video files in various states of incompletion flying around the the place and no-one really knew who was doing what and when!
So in the end I implemented a Trello workflow to the scene and things calmed down very quickly.
When you are working alone keeping track of things is quite simple if you are that type of person.
However I cannot speak too highly of having some kind of organized workflow in place to make the whole process so much simpler.
One of the main factors that will ultimately end your career in video editing (even as an amatuer!) will be that the process itself become tedious or even downright painful.
Editing is by its nature repetitive and fiddly so any impediment to a fast and efficient workflow will take the shine off it really fast.
In fact that is one of the main reasons people give up yet there are a number of things you can do to avoid that trap.
First of all it is vital that you identify repetitive tasks and work out whether there is some kind of automation that can be applied to that task.
For example don’t keep re-making your opening credits, create a template… that sort of thing.
Another thing is to workout a workflow and stick to it.
There is nothing more prone to causing frustration as having to go back to repeat or redo things that you forgot to do as you were moving through the process.
Failing to organize your assets into a sensible and identifiable file structure BEFORE you start editing saves hours of messing about later on.
The other thing is your physical workspace.
If it is cluttered, disorganized or just uncomfortable then instead of working for you it will be working against you so get that handled!

Like all video editing software Filmora allows you to scroll text and other objects across the screen or in just about any direction for that matter.
Although the effect itself is not exactly rocket surgery these days, it still presents itself as a problem from a user point of view.
Technically it is quite a complex action to carry out for the software so because of that understanding the controls can also be a little complex.
Once you get the hang of it, it all makes sense. It’s the “getting the hang of it” part that is the problem!

Of course tutorials on manipulating graphic assets and others in PowerDirector could go on for days because there is just so much you can do and so many ways to control things.
Despite that here’s a tutorial on adding an effect to a graphic image and a few other settings you can use toget things looking how you want.
This is a transition design done in PowerDirector using masks but realistically it can be done in most video editing software.
As long as the software offers masks and keyframing (which most do) then you are good to go.
It was always only going to be a matter of time before YouTube started adjusting its policies regarding A.I. generated content.
So surprising absolutely nobody they have recently announced some changes.
Possibly you, like me, have seen the usual doomsday proclamations from the masses saying that YouTube will ban such content and other dire predictions.
The truth is that all they have done is require that creators disclose to their audiences what has been A.I. generated and to what degree.
So no need to panic just yet!
This is a pretty understandable walk-through in DaVinci Resolve Fusion of a particularly complex visual effect!
Although from the outside this looks to be an almost Hollywood grade effect it can be pulled off by a non-Hollywood FX artist given the right guidance.
Now this is by no means a simple drag’n’drop effect but I think if you are interested in effects then this is great tutorial.
Not only do you end up with a spectacular effect but you also get to step through some of the features in Fusion and learn more about using it.
One of the points at which science meets art in the world of video editing is dealing with audio.
In video you can pretty much lay out rules, have someone follow them and end up with a reasonable result.
In audio you can follow the rules and end up with rubbish!
It involves subtle changes, constant listening then further re-evaluation of what you have just done and even then you may get to a point where everything sounds terrible.
