The Friday Roundup – Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Release and a Whole Lotta Tips

MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2015 Premium

Magix have just released the latest version of their consumer editing suite, Movie Edit Pro 2015.

They are the first off he rank with updates for this year although CyberLink should be due for their new version around the middle of this month.

I have included the glossy, all singing, all dancing wizzbang effects promotional video below for your viewing pleasure just below this scintillating text!

Just on first impressions it looks totally cool but of course that’s completely based on viewing a video created by the marketing department with the express purpose of making you and I think, “Wow! That looks totally cool!”

So in the next week or so I’ll get a copy downloaded and installed and will post an updated review as soon as I can.

Handheld Shooting Tips

OK I don’t actually mean tips for shooting video that you can hold in your hand… just so we are all on the same page here.

I really mean tips for shooting video BY hand… without a tripod and stuff.

Now that most of us are probably shooting some kind of high definition footage we can all sit back and be amazed at the sharpness and quality of our images.

Unfortunately at the same time many of us are also wondering why our footage is jumping around so much!

The downside of HD if of course that it exaggerates camera shake and movement in the process of taking those awesome images.

A tripod is always the best solution but life doesn’t always work out quite that way. Check out the article below for some tips on how to reduce camera shake in the field.

Online Video Wars

At the moment there is a pretty interesting battle going on between some of the major players in the online video space.

The three main contenders are YouTube (of course), Vine and Instagram.

Each one is trying their best to add features to attract an increasing user base and the winner seems to be the users!

Color Correction

If you have ever tried to use the color correction or color grading tools in any video editing app you will know that getting good results is not exactly as easy as it says on the box.

Personally I find it to be an endless source of frustration and is possibly the biggest time-suck you can get involved in when it comes to editing.

One sneaky way of avoiding it altogether is to get footage that is consistent and has no real need for correction when it comes to post production… again, easier said than done!

Camera Settings and Quick Color Correction

Green Screen Tips

Speaking of editing or shooting processes that are a little more difficult than how they are described by the marketing department we move to Green Screen.

When you read the box it sounds so simple yet when you check your results they seem so… meh.

Over at NoFilmSchool.com they have compiled a bunch of video tutorials that cover the subject pretty well and give some great tips on how to tame this beast.

Codecs

And finally this week a total geek article on Codecs.

Not exactly the most exciting subject in the field but a necessary one all the same.
