If you have been reading this blog for any amount of time you may be aware that I moved from strictly editing videos to shooting them as well a few years back.
The reason for that evolution was that my wife started her own content creation for YouTube and other social media platforms.
As part of the process of getting her set up, we had to come up with a way to shoot her videos based on the creation of that content plus the ability to record lessons she was making for an online course.
The path we tried first was using a webcam arrangement which was a strategy we abandoned really, really fast and the reason at that time was surprising.
I had assumed that with the breakneck speed of development with regards to shooting videos on smart phones and cameras that webcams would of course be a part of it.
How wrong I was!
For the money being asked, the quality of the webcams I checked out and eventually purchased was simply awful.
The video seemed to be low quality 1080p resolution and even when they went up to 4K, they lacked definition and clarity.
There was almost a complete disregard for audio as being part of the process with the vast majority expecting you to plug a separate mic into your computer.
So a few weeks back I was approached by a company called Osbot with a view to looking at their range of webcams and other small cameras and streaming devices.
Although skeptical at first I took a look and was more than pleasantly surprised.
I haven’t delved too deeply into their complete range of products but I have taken a close look at what they have on offer in the webcam department for the beginner or those just starting out.
If you would like to see their full range of products you can check it out HERE
To say it’s a whole new world would be an understatement!
These little devices can pump out high quality 4K resolution footage in a variety of lighting conditions, have excellent audio features built-in with the advantages of A.I technology as well.
For anyone wanting to lift their video and audio quality in a single move, this new generation of webcam/cameras are what I was waiting for.
Although their prices range up into the thousands for their very advanced pro products, the simpler versions are well within reach.
For someone starting out or wanting to make that next step up in quality and convenience I think these ones are well worth taking a look at.
Osbot recently released the Osbot Meet Flip which is monitor or tripod mounted straight up webcam as pictured at the top of this post.
It has great audio performance utilizes enhanced AI capabilities, including smart framing and gesture controls.
It also comes with a foldable design that allows the webcam to automatically power on when opened and physically covers the lens when closed, providing instant privacy protection.
It’s a simple plug-and-play setup with a compact design and an effortless user experience.
It would be a great fit for users who are starting out on their content journey and are looking for better video and audio quality without a high investment.
One important thing to note is that the Osbot Meet Flip and the Tiny 2 cams mentioned below can both be mounted on to a standard 1/4″ fitting on a tripod as well.
This means that you are not restricted to only using it as a webcam with the only limitation is how long a USB C cable you can get a hold of!
