Given what is currently popular when it comes to videos and video editing styles there are a few things you really need to get under control if you don’t want to look dated.
In fact two particular features appearing in consumer level video editing software have pretty much defined what videos on YouTube, TikTok and the like look like right now.
The features I am talking about are keyframing and masking.
In the video below from Daniel Batal he covers in some depth the subject of masking and how to use it in a practical way.
As usual he demonstrates in Filmora as his video editing software but in fact just about all masking tools or modules look very much the same with only slight variations.
Some great tips and shortcut from Gripps who seems to have returned to YouTube after a long absence.
A while back now Gripps used to be my “go to” guy for all things VideoStudio but then he kind of disappeared.
Through sheer dumb luck I was served a video by him the other day on YouTube and I realized that the date of the video was quite recent.
I went over to his old channel and sure enough he has been back posting for a while now.
If you are new to editing or using VideoStudio from Corel or even if you have some experience, Gripps is a great source of information.
This is a cool little feature sort of hidden within the depths of VideoStudio 2022 that can really come in handy when trying to adjust video that has faces in it.
Of course you can color correct or color grade any video or even do the same for areas inside the video frame using masks.
However doing it this way can be a bit fiddly and time consuming especially when you are trying to create content regularly.

Some solid general tips here on getting the audio right in your videos.
If you have ever been watching a video and felt there was something wrong with it… but you just couldn’t put your finger on the exact problem, chances are the audio was bad.
I don’t mean so bad that you thought that the audio was bad… just bad enough for you to think something was wrong and you wanted to click away.
GoPro have just uploaded a new series of tutorial videos on how to get started with and use their latest GoPro’s.
If you own a GoPro you are probably aware of these videos but if you don’t they are worth checking out anyway.
When they make tutorials GoPro are quite good at saying what you should or should not be doing with their cams and the settings etc. but more importantly they explain WHY.
Another good tip here from Kevin the Basic Filmmaker on adding a little something to your videos to make them look a whole lot better.
As a bonus it also doesn’t cost a bunch either!
Sometimes you really can fix it in post!
Just a quick tip/trick here from Kevin on discovering you have just taken a bunch of footage and failed to notice there was a light flickering in the background somewhere.
These titles were introduced a while back now in Filmora but this is the first time anyone has highlighted them.
I don’t personally use many of them and in fact have only ever used one but that because they don’t really suit my projects.
You mileage may differ so check them out.
Other than that this is also a good walk-through of the settings and features contained within the Advanced section of the Text/Titling module.
If you are just starting out with any video editing software then this is a good place to start.
Most of these tips apply to any brand of editor but unfortunately there is bad news!
That bad news is that even though software is getting way easier to use and can do all sorts of things they couldn’t in years past… the fastest way to go fast, is to go slow!
Yup, the best course of action is still to slow down and learn the basics first, then practice, then learn, then practice… well I think you get the picture.
Some advanced concepts and tips here but worth looking at given that if you at least understand it the reason you may be able to use it yourself.
Having said that this stuff is certainly at a level that most of us are not operating at but we can at least aspire to it!
