Best YouTube Editing Workflow
First up if you have followed along with the Friday Roundups for any amount of time you will be aware that I just loves me some workflow tips!
The reason for this is that video editing and production is largely a repetitive process filled with lots of little repetitive processes!
For that reason it is a process that can get boring and become arduous very fast.
The answer to this is to set up a workflow that is repeatable and can get you through the boring bits as fast as possible while still retaining quality and your own peace of mind.
So here’s a workflow from Casey Faris who posts a lot on YouTube and uses DaVinci Resolve.
Based on that he is probably a pretty good person to follow along with to get your own workflow sorted out.
Of particular note in this video is the very first section where Casey covers the subject of getting organized.
This isn’t just for Resolve.
Every video editor out there offers some kind of library structure which enables you to sort and organize your assets. Time spent doing this is never wasted.
Add more scenes per page when creating a DVD menu
Well here’s a little throwback tutorial on the subject of DVD Chapters!
Of course I am joking here because the reality is that a great many people are still working with DVD as their final destination for projects.
In fact based on the number of questions I get asked here on the site the use of DVD’s seems to be more prevalent that Blu-ray so there ya go!
The video tutorial below covers the action of adding more chapters to a DVD menu with associated thumbnails than the presets offer.
Text-to-Speech Optimized! – 33 New Natural Sounds Added to Filmora
OK so we all know that Text-to-Speech has been around for a few years now.
About three years ago there was some implementation of machine learning into the mix that started those computer generated voices sounding more human.
As I recall the Amazon engine I was testing at the time was beginning to inject more human sounding emphasis on syllables and was far less robotic than previously.
Right now with the implementation of A.I. technology things have really kicked off.
Just recently Filmora expanded their text to speech module with the addition of a range of parameters to adjust the computer generated voices enormously.
I have been playing with it this week and honestly it’s all getting a bit creepy! They really are that good.
Filmora 13 Custom Drawing Tools
As of Filmora 13.1.5 a new feature was introduced allowing you to draw your own shapes on the screen then use a bunch of settings to customise that shape.
Things like the transform settings, the drop shadow and others can be applied.
It’s all pretty limited so far but being Filmora I am sure they are not going to just leave it at that!
Wondershare Filmora 13 Chroma Key / Green Screen Effect Tutorial For Beginners
This is a quick video tutorial on accessing and dealing with the green screen feature in Filmora.
If you are new then this is pretty much all you need to know and if you are already using Filmora then this is a refresher!
In the tutorial Jacky shows some of the other controls you can use in that module for adjusting the effect.
Things like Offset, Tolerance, Edge Thickness etc.
Unfortunately the example footage he uses is pretty much a perfect green screen of a cartoon character so when he uses those controls nothing much happens!
The actual purpose of those controls is for when you have a less than perfect green screen.
You can play around with those controls to get everything looking good.
Do This to Get Views and Subscribers on YouTube Shorts
Let me start this one off by saying that the tips here do not only apply to YouTube Shorts.
They are just as applicable for when it comes to Instagram Reels or TikTok or any other short form video content online.
So as I discuss this I will use the term Shorts but I mean all short form content regardless of name or platform.
The subjects covered by shorts are just as wide and varied as all other content on YouTube so the problem for creators is how to get noticed in a sea of content.
The subject matter is not really going to do that job so the real trick is to grab and hold attention visually.
The result of this had been content creators going to incredible lengths to get that attention through the way they present their shorts.
In other words they have developed an arsenal of editing and shooting tricks to make their videos stand out.
Very often those tricks are almost invisible to anyone other than a trained editor.
The perfect example is the first tip in the video below of brightening the first few seconds of the video to hold interest .
Trying to find and identify these little tricks is full time job in itself so it’s always better to let someone else do the work! Check out the video.

How to Always Play from the Same Position – DaVinci Resolve
The thing with DaVinci Resolve being designed essentially for professionals is that there are a gazillion “little settings” in there to make the job easier.
Pretty much any time you think to yourself, “I wish I could do (…insert task here)” chances are you can!
