13 Cinematic Drone Moves To Fly Like a Pro.
These days good quality drones offering excellent video quality are becoming more and more affordable.
Even very small, simple drones can create great looking footage at little cost.
However what I see as the elephant in the room is that in order to get great drone footage you don’t actually need to be a great cinematographer.
What you actually need to be is a great drone operator!
You are absolutely not going to get good footage if your drone is at the bottom of a lake!
So here are some drone moves you may want to copy with the emphasis being on learning how to fly your drone well to get what you want.
How To Create A YouTube Channel – 2024 Beginner’s Guide
OK let’s face it the YouTube interface changes constantly and it is almost impossible to outline starting a new channel and have it be relevant for more than two months!
So in the never ending quest for a “Starting a New YouTube Channel” tutorial that is at least in some way relevant here’s a new one from the guys at Primal Video.
I figure it should be good to go for a few months at least!
How to Transfer Video Content from a DVD – PowerDirector
This video addresses one of the recent changes to the user interface of PowerDirector that came out this year.
For the most part I am totally on board with the redesign and feel it was long overdue as the previous interface was becoming cluttered and confusing to new users.
Sure there was a bit of complaining from the existing user base but most of that has died down now.
Having said that the new method of importing from Discs like CDs or DVDs is kinda nuts!
Previously you just went to the Import tab, navigated to the disc, selected the whole thing or the tracks or whatever it parsed the disc structure to be and hit the import button.
Pretty straightforward really and essentially was just doing what was really happening… importing a file.
In the new interface it’s a whole new ball game and for no apparent reason as far asI can tell!
Now you have to go into the “Record” tab even though you are not recording and pretend you are “recording” from the disc… anyway here’s how you do it.
Video Transitions in Movavi Video Editor 2024
Transitions in video projects have a particular purpose and when you fail to follow that purpose your videos lose viewers instantly. So what is that purpose?
The real reason for transitions is so that you can seamlessly move your audience’s attention from one scene or shot to the next smoothly and without interruption.
Any transition that fails to do that is a bad transition.
The reason we have to cut from shot to shot or scene to scene is that without that viewer attention would also drift away due to the endless nature of what they are viewing.
So again it comes back to viewer attention.
Although most video editors come with a boatload of preset transitions you can drag and drop onto the timeline that doesn’t means they are all useful in all circumstances.
In the video below you can see 8 of the most common ones and bear in mind they are common because they work.
How to Create Harry Potter 9 3/4 Platform Effect in Filmora
This is a pretty cool walkthrough of an effect from the shooting stage all the way through post production.
The effect itself is is where the subject “fades” or disappears into a wall.
As is the case with most visual effects like this the key is in setting up and shooting the footage rather than anything overly complicated in editing software.
He Cracked The Long & Short Form Code For YouTube
First up this one is a livestream video so it does go on for a while!
Having said that there really is some great content here especially for the current scene on YouTube.
The addition of Shorts into the mix along with regular long form content has thrown up a bunch of “maybes” on how to leverage either or both into success.
In this video Derral interviews someone who has actually come up with a strategy that has worked for him.
What is Blackmagic Fusion in Plain English – DaVinci Resolve Tips
As I mention quite often in the Friday Roundups one of the most powerful features of DaVinci resolve is the Fusion Page.
This is the dedicated visual effects module of Resolve and although a huge number of effects can be achieved in other places, the Fusion Page is the real star of the show.
Just like a few other Pages in Resolve the Fusion page was incorporated into Resolve some time back now.
Originally Resolve was a very, very basic editor with the sole purpose of being for Color Management, correction and grading.
It was at the time and still is the industry standard for those actions.
However the folks at Black Magic knew that as a pretty much standalone color grading software its days were numbered.
So in response to that they added Fusion for effects, Fairlight for audio and greatly expanded the editing and distribution features to what we have today.
If you are using Resolve and have not really delved into the Fusion Page then check out the video below for a thorough run through of just what you can do in this powerful module of DaVinci Resolve.
Edit Faster using “Selection Follows Playhead” – DaVinci Resolve
This is a great little time saver from Daniel Batal this week for DaVinci Resolve.
One of the real “time sucks” for when it comes to editing is the constant need to keep pointing and clicking on things as you move around.
In itself each point and click is nothing but over the course of an hour or so it all adds up!
