The Friday Roundup – Classic Fim Effects and A.I. Lip Sync

Humorous cartoon image of woman shocked by no CGI effects.

Amazing Effects in Classic Films – How Did They Pull It Off?

Every now and then the guys at Film Riot put up a video covering how special effects were created in the days before CGI and A.I.

It’s always great fun to watch how inventively and creatively there earlier filmmakers overcame the technical limitations of what they were working with.

The Best AI Voice Translator with Lip Sync – PowerDirector

Well dang! I’m off to start my Chinese Youtube Channel tomorrow!

I know that Descript has a cool A.I. feature that adjusts your video so that your eyes are always looking directly at the camera.

However this new one from from PowerDirector is kinda awesome and just a little creepy!

I was watching a French YouTuber who I follow to get recipes and I usually just auto-translate the dialogue into English subtitles.

I also know she uses PowerDirector for editing.

So I hit her channel and suddenly there she was speaking perfect English with a French accent!

I figured it must have been some hidden talent until I watched very, very closely and realized there was something else going on.

This new feature in PowerDirector not only translated her original French but also cloned her voice and synced her lips in the video to make it look like she was actually speaking English.

Fixing Three Common Editing Mistakes – PowerDirector

This is one of the weekly livestreams that Maliek from PowerDirector University YouTube Channel hosts.

The stream is somewhat aimed at PowerDirector users and is a great resource for them but more than that it is a great resource for video makers in general.

What usually ends up happening is that the topics covered are not actually confined to PowerDirector specific issues and tutorials tend to go way wider in their appeal.

Well worth taking a look at.

5 Sound Editing Secrets That Will Instantly Improve Any Video

Of course the great unsung hero of video and even filmmaking for that matter has always been audio.

I clearly remember the first project I did using a Sony DV AVI tape camera which was burned onto a DVD… state of the art at the time!

I was quite pleased with myself when I slipped it into the DVD player and for that time the image quality was way better then I had expected.

However there was something wrong with the project that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.

Finally I realized it was the audio.

The audio was awful and I realized no matter how good the visuals, if the audio was bad there was no getting past that point.

Here are tips for getting your audio on point.

Cinematic Walk-By Text Reveal Effect in Filmora 14 Tutorial

This is a quick “text reveal” effect using masks, a basic title and a few layers on the timeline.

This is a great tool to have in your back pocket because it is simple and fast to do but adds a great rpo touch to any video using titles.

Filmora’s Idea to Video – A.I.

The is a newish A.I. module released with Filmora 14 along the lines of the existing text to video modules and similar.

In this one you provide a basic idea prompt and the A.I. then generates script.

After that you can tweak the script then go on to the video creation stage.

It’s OK and having used it a few times seems quite good for what it is.

To my tastes the results are still a little cheesy but it does show promise.

It’s just not something I would be using for my own content.

Gambit Card Throw Effect Tutorial

Ok I am not in any way delusional enough to be thinking that you or I are ever going to go to this much trouble for some effects on a video!

I do however want to direct your attention to this tutorial to get a more realistic idea of what it actually takes to pull off pro level effects.

There is a lot of noise around at the moment regarding getting A.I. to do certain things especially in the field of special effects.

The problem with that is that it totally removes just how much human input it takes to go from an “OK” effect using A.I. to one that is totally realistic when done by hand.

In Depth DaVinci Resolve Video Editing Tutorial – Mac & PC 2025

Recently DaVinci Resolve 20 was released as a beta version and then last week the final build was taken out of beta and sent off into the wild.

There have been numerous video tutorials posted online since that initial beta release but I have been waiting for one particular type of video.

The one I wanted was a complete end to end run through of resolve done using the new Version 20 iteration and here we are!

The video below is the perfect introduction to Resolve if version 20 is the first time you are using it but!

This is not my first time using Resolve obviously and I have still taken the time to go through the video to refresh what I knew, to learn what’s different and pick up a few tips along the way.

Maybe you can too.

10 Free Effects I Use on EVERY Project in DaVinci Resolve 20

As complicated as the interface of DaVinci Resolve seems at the beginning, once you get used to it you really start to get some great free effects.

I don’t mean wizzbang spinny stuff you think (and only you) think is really cool!

I mean really practical tools that you will very quickly incorporate into your regular work flow once you find them.

Of course the trick with Resolve is finding them!

Here are ten of the best.
