Cringy Editing Habits You Need to Break in 2024

A bit of fun this week from Casey Faris on the subject of just awful editing decisions people make and are sadly, still are making in their editing.

The gist of it is they set out to make the cringiest video they could using all the mistakes they see in videos around the traps.

The results are pretty bad but it is still worth watching just to make sure you are not doing any of this!

YouTube Channel Promotion Mistakes That Will Kill Your Views

It is no secret that the competition on YouTube has been fierce for years now but that does not mean YouTube has become some kind of impossibility for success.

There have always been and there still are a finite number of things that you can do to become successful.

One of the biggest reasons people don’t get successful is that they don’t find out what those things are and do them.

How to Color Correct a Video Correctly – a Simple Method

Admittedly the first few minutes of this video are a thinly veiled promotion of the Movavi Video Editor but they eventually get to the meat and potatoes!

There are some good ideas and demonstrations in it for simply color correcting videos as well as using LUTs to achieve a “look.”

AI Music Generator is Now Commercially Available

One of the newer A.I.features that was introduced with Filmora 13 was the integration of an A.I. music generator.

Now obviously the music generator is not housed on your computer due to the need for about a gazillion gigabytes of space! So that’s why I refer to it as an integration.

The original version was fairly limited as far a choice went for various moods and genres of music you could have it create.

This week they released an update to the module with way more choices and ways to specify more precisely what music you want.

More importantly they have finalized the arrangement of usage for any music generated which means you can now use the music commercially.

For many people this may not seem like such a big deal if you had no intention to use that music commercially in the first place.

The reason this is good is that now any uncertainty as to whether or not your content is commercial is removed so your chances of bot driven copyright strikes are way less.

Effortless Keyframing – DaVinci Resolve for Beginners

Very often people new to any video editing software discover the joys of keyframing!

From that point forward they use keyframes because they are so useful and offer such control.

Almost just as often they fail to realize that keyframing can apply to many, many other parameters that your editing software offers.

You can use them to adjust size, position, animations, effects and the list goes on and on.

For the most part they are very fast and very effective at a wide range of activities within your video editor.

In the video below Daniel Batal spends about an hour on the subject of keyframing as it can be applied within DaVinci Resolve.

If you are using Resolve as your editing software great, this is everything you will probably ever need to know!

If you are not using Resolve then check it out anyway.

There is a good chance that the software you are using also offers the same and perhaps you weren’t aware of it.

Decisions That Help you Tell a Cohesive Story

One of the problems you and I will always have when creating videos is that we will be dealing with less than ideal assets from the outset.

Spontaneous family moments or events with friends cannot just be shot again because the footage didn’t look good!

Essentially we are dealing almost totally with what we have and there’s no going back!

A professional video maker can re-shoot or get another take… not us!

So to create something good from something not so good we need to make solid creative choices and learn to work smarter.

In the video below you can follow along with some creative choices made to cover up the fact that the available assets we not quite up to scratch.

The AI Voice Changer with 100 Personalities – PowerDirector

This is an A.I. feature that I am probably going to use a lot.

I know that most of the current video editing software makers are trying to add various A.I. driven modules to “keep up with the Joneses!”

The reality is that although they are kind of cool to see they may not actually be things you or I will actually use all that much.

In the case of the PowerDirector voice changer I don’t think this will be the case.

Getting someone to speak naturally when recording is hard enough.

When it comes to voicing characters it becomes near impossible.

This new voice changer feature can really come in handy when you need a voice other than your own.

HELP! My Timeline Doesn’t Move When I Change Speed

OK so I am including this short video because as luck would have it I hit exactly the same problem this week.

I was working on a project in Resolve for my wife and she wanted a section of the timeline speeded up and another little section slowed down.

Unfortunately she decided she wanted to do this when I was quite advanced into the edit and had a pretty busy timeline on my hands.

I did both of those actions with no problem then to my horror realized that all the other assets on the timeline were now out of place.

I had to backtrack undoing the speed changes to get to where I had started then I saw this video from Daniel Batal and it all became clear!
