Welcome to this weeks Friday Roundup!
It’s been a pretty mixed bag of stuff this week in the world of video editing a software and although many of this week’s articles may not seem relevant they are worth taking a look at.
- The Unfolding Vine embed Story
First up we have some updates on the unfolding (probably completely unfolded by now!) story regarding the Vine service. Will they become the new YouTube?
Probably not… but they are looking to become a heavy hitter in the arena (that was very sporty wasn’t it?) and if you are looking for exposure, they may be a service you need to look at.
If you don’t know what Vine is, it’s a mobile app that allows you to create and post 6-second long video clips.
Vine’s New Embed Capabilities About to Make it Grow A Little Bit More
“Today, Vine introduced an update to their application today that increases the embedding capabilities, adds some fun little bells and whistles, and includes iOS devices. The ability for a video to be embedded easily and without extra work is the type of thing that helped YouTube become the juggernaut it is today.”
Vine Videos Can Now be Embedded on the Web
“Get ready to start seeing a whole lot more Vine videos all over the Web. Twitter today updated its iOS video-sharing app and website to allow users to embed their six-second masterpieces anywhere on the Internet.”
- A New PowerDirector Tutorial
“Title bars (lower thirds) come in handy when you need text to stand out from the video background. This toot shows some ways to make & use them in PowerDirector.”
- The Ever Increasing Importance of Video in the Eyes of the Search Engines
Video Snippets Continue to Dominate Google Universal Search Results
“A new report from Searchmetrics confirms that video, especially if hosted on YouTube, remains the most effective way of appearing in the Universal Search results.”
- A Great Article on YouTube Customer Service
Written from the perspective of a mid to low range advertiser or promoter on YouTube this shows just what you can expect from YouTube after you hand over your money. And by all accounts the answer is… not much!
Facebook Customer Service: Social Media Advertising Part I
“Given that fact, one would think that these social networks would be pleased to offer support for their “revenue sources.” However, is that really the case for businesses using and relying on them?”
- Video Marketing
Many of you may wonder why I would include a number of posts here that refer to the more commercial aspects of video and using services such as YouTube.
The reason for this is that no matter what you actually intention is, commercial or otherwise, I am assuming you want an audience.
The “Field of Dreams” approach simply does not work and the truth is that if you build it, no one will have any idea you did and as a result… will not come!
There is much to be learned from the marketing guys on how to get people to see your projects.
The Marketing Value of YouTube
“One of the earliest questions considered by any business, large or small, investing in video marketing will certainly be, ‘Should I have a YouTube channel?’ The answer: probably.”
- Some Advance Lighting Techniques
I have always found that by taking the time to read through posts like this one here my own work and especially my awareness of what I was doing and what is going on the process is greatly improved.
I am definitely not saying that these lighting techniques are some the average person should be concerned with! But what they do offer is a deeper understand of why you are getting certain results and some ways that you can improve them.
Lighting for Cinematographers
“Many of you have heard me talk about how I light to eye by either looking at the back LCD screen or a lighting monitor like an HP DreamColor. Lighting to eye is something that is based on experience and what you like esthetically.”
- Awesome Video Footage
Well there is nothing educational of informative about this in any way. It is some footage taken using a camera I will never be able to afford and using a helicopter is out of the question… but the results are amazing!
Teton Gravity Research Aerial Reel – The Bay Area in 4K
“From the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz to the Bay Lights at night, see the Bay Area’s most iconic locations like you’ve never seen them before. Shot in 4K/”Ultra-HD,” Teton Gravity Research presents the first footage from their new RED Epic-equipped gyrostabilized camera platform: The GSS C520. The GSS C520 is a portable 5-axis system that houses a range of leading digital cinema cameras, like the Epic and Sony F55, while also capable of integrating future advancements in camera technology.”
- Some Video Blogging Idea from Muvee Blog
“Video can be a great medium for teaching. Viewers can see exactly what you are doing, mirror your techniques and master new skills. These content creators understand the power of great video and use it to take their blogs to the next level.”
- It’s Just Something Totally Cool!
First 4K Canon 1DC Drone Flight
“The Canon 1D C has taken to the skies for the first time thanks to Perspective Aerials founder Anthony Jacobs, who has just stepped up their drone to fly heavier cameras.”
Well that’s it for this week, hoped you enjoyed the cool stuff and maybe learned something for the rest!
