Audacity’s Secret Tool – Spectral Editing Magic
One piece of software that I have used consistently over the years and highly recommend is Audacity.
It is a totally free digital audio workstation with pro level tools.
Even better than that is that it was taken over by a company called Muse back in 2021 and despite all the user’s initial whining, they have really accelerated its development.
To get an idea of just how powerful it is if you know what you are doing check out the video below on spectral editing.
Easy Animated Folding Paper Effect – Wondershare Filmora 13
It’s easy to get the idea that to pull off advanced editing techniques you need a super advanced (and super expensive!) editing program.
In reality most video editing software at the consumer level these days is actually advanced by nature due to the relentless development over the past few years.
In the video below you can see quite a complex effect being pulled off in Filmora 13.
Sure, ten years ago this would not have been possible but these days there is not much you can’t do with a program like Filmora or something at that level.
Basic Features of Masks with the New 365 Interface – PowerDirector
The new PowerDirector interface has been around for about a year now but most users of that software still refer to it as “the new interface!”
I guess old habits die hard.
Anyway, one of the major developments and advances in the world of video editing for the common folk has been the ability to work with masks.
Technically this is quite an advanced feature but these days most editing software offers masking at least at some level.
PowerDirector was one of the first programs to include this and they have been developing that feature consistently ever since.
Here’s tutorial on accessing and using masks at a basic level in PowerDirector to get you started.
How to Make a YouTube Video Setup at Home
A few years back when I started shooting videos for my wife in a room at the back of our office the results were pretty dire!
At that point we just went into the room and shot on her Samsung phone and it became obvious to us very quickly that things needed to change!
So began the slow process of adjusting that space into what now is a pretty serviceable studio setup but make no mistake, it is by no means a fully professional set up!
In watching the video below for the first time it struck me that within that video is pretty much the entire journey we went on to get to where we are today.
Best Free Video Editing Apps For iPhone & Android
I don’t use apps on any phone of any description for editing so as a result know nothing about them or their performance.
Free vs. paid which is best? Who knows! Certainly not me!
I think the guys at Primal Video probably have a much better idea.
How to Upload Video to YouTube From Filmora 13 Tutorial For Beginners
I wanted to include this post in this week’s Friday Round up because is gives me the opportunity to highlight a common problem.
The reason is that Filmora, like most modern video editing programs these days offers the ability to directly upload to YouTube from within the user interface.
In itself that’s not something special and when it works it is a great way to get the upload done easily.
However if you are using this feature in Filmora or any other editing software there are a few things you need to be aware of.
The first of these is that it is always better to delay publication of the video on YouTube until you have gone directly into your Creator account and attended to all the extra settings in there.
This is just to make sure you have all your ducks in a row before releasing the video.
The second thing to keep in mind is that programs like Filmora rely on an API which is issued by YouTube to allow direct uploading to your account.
An “API” is basically a set of protocols determined by YouTube on how external software interacts with their platform.
Because YouTube is so big they are always under at least some kind of attack from hackers trying to exploit their platform and one of the most common ways of doing that is through their own API.
This means that the API itself is updated and changed quite regularly.
Theoretically YouTube should be notifying users of updates to the API and issuing newer versions as they are released… theoretically!
The reality is that quite often the software makers only get to find out about the updates after all their users start complaining!
So regardless of what software you are using for video editing and direct uploading to YouTube, if it fails first check to see if your program has an update available.
Very often the update will included changes to the API.
If still no joy then simply render to a YouTube compatible file and upload manually.
Sound Like any Celebrity with These AI Voice Tools
There are a lot of A.I. driven voice changers, cloners and celebrity soundalikes going around at the moment.
I actually use a few of these for creating voice changes in some of the video I make so maybe you might find a use for one or two of them.
DaVinci Resolve 19 Audio Effects in Cut, Edit & Fairlight!
One of the cool things about working in DaVinci Resolve is that you don’t always have to be in a specific module in order to apply a particular effect.
So for example I don’t have to be in the Fairlight Page to apply an audio effect to a clip or a track.
The same goes for a bunch of other effects. Check it out in the video below.
