All things video for the enthusiastic amateur...

The Friday Roundup – Camera Angles and Visual Effects

Willy Wonka discussing camera angles.

12 Camera Angles to Enhance Your Videos

Almost every decision you make as a video maker will inevitably have an effect on how you audience perceives what you have created.

Whether it is intentional or not there will be an effect and often it may not be exactly what you had in mind!

Probably the difference between a pro and an amateur is that the pro knows what they are going for and how to do it and with the amatuer…. maybe not so much!

One of these sort of “unseen” effects is the camera angle that you use to shoot a scene.

Most people are aware of the higher than the subject equals a minimization of that subject and lower has the opposite effect concept.

Beyond that there are a multitude of angles you can use either intentionally or not which also have their own result.

Check out some of the more common ones in the video below.

How to Tell a Story with Video Editing – How to Cut Footage Like a Pro

This is a bit of a deep dive into the subject of story as it applies to video and more specifically the actual video editing itself.

Very often you will find tutorials on various parts of video editing but they tend to focus more on the technical aspects rather than what it is you are trying to achieve in editing.

In this video Jay goes through the process of editing for story and uses a children’s book as an example of how to go about it.

It is a really accessible approach and demystifies it all enormously.

How to Create Logo Reveal Intro in Filmora

This is a walk-through of creating a logo reveal sequence in Filmora 13.

It doesn’t really matter if you like Jacky’s design or not the important part is to see how he is manipulating the logo to get the effect he wants.

Filmora 13 Screen Recorder Tutorial

One overlooked feature in Filmora and many other video editing software programs these days in the screen recorder.

Screen recorders used to be standalone programs that actually sold for quite a bit of money back in the day!

However seven or eight years ago most of the bigger companies started to just add them for free and most have retained them as well.

Interestingly just about all of those screen recorders regardless of what brand tend to look almost exactly the same which makes me suspect they all at least started their lives as the same program.

Anyway, for the most part you can just open a screen recorder and use it but like most software you can always extract a little more if you know what you are doing.

The video below covers the Filmora screen recorder but most of them look the same.

6 Free Davinci Resolve Effects to Use On Every Project

OK so there is no need for me to explain that inside DaVinci Resolve there is simply a ton of stuff going on!

The sheer complication of it all makes it seem somewhat daunting so people tend to keep it very simple and only delve into the absolute basics.

The problem with that approach is that you are not really using the power of the program and very often you will be executing tasks in the most inefficient manner!

Inside all those knobs and dials and buttons and stuff are a bunch of tools to actually make things easier… who knew!

Check this video out for some great ways of using some of those tools to expand your editing and make things easier as well.
