The Friday Roundup – Vlogging Camera Options & A.I. Tools

Woman using three phones as vlogging cameras.

Best Vlogging Camera For Beginners in 2025 – 5 Easy To Use Options

I never get into testing, reviewing or generally checking out camera solutions for the average video maker.

The reason for that is that I am in no way qualified to actually do that and secondly, the rate at which new stuff comes out is too much for me to handle.

So, in light of that the closest I get is to either refer to my article series on choosing camera here: Choosing a Video Camera or add the occasional video from a reliable source.

The “reliable source” one is the video below.

Introduction to the AI Enhancement Tool for PowerDirector

The introduction of A.I. tools in video editing software is pretty universal these days with all sorts of functionality being added.

One area that interests me greatly is that of video enhancement or upscaling.

This is a task that is ideally suited to A.I. because large learning models can be trained to understand an image and “learn” what that image should look like at a higher resolution and at better quality.

The king of this process for a few years now has been Topaz Labs with their Video.AI product.

For me the fact that it comes in at around $300 for a licence plus needing a particularly beefy computer to complete the process, has always put it a little out of my reach.

In the latest update to PowerDirector they have introduced something comparable and you can see the results in the video below.

The beauty of this one is that the clips are uploaded to their cloud service to be dealt with rather than the work being done on your own computer.

See what you think.

Start Editing 10x FASTER with These Tips! Video Editing for Beginners – Movavi Vlog

Some excellent tips here from the guys at Movavi although having said that you just know there is going to be some shameless self-promotion involved!

The reality is that as a newbie, video editing will start off as kind of frustrating because you have to learn each step before you can do it.

There is very little that is intuitive as far as editing goes because it is an activity that really has no other activity with which to compare.

The next stage is that you become familiar with your basic actions and the repetition (and boredom) begins to set in!

It’s sort of like you have this realization, “Oh I see! It’s just repeating these things over and over!”

After that it all becomes a bit of a grind really unless you take some conscious steps to address the problem at its root

It is those steps like the ones you will see in the video below that will preserve your sanity and lessen the pain.

Simple Floating Text Effect in Filmora 14 Tutorial

This is just a quick demo of adding an effect in Filmora to create floating text.

The process itself is quite simple especially when you consider that you can save little bits like this for later use.

Another way to do it is to add the effect into an Adjustment Layer then save the adjustment layer as a custom setting.

Custom Lower Third Graphics – VideoStudio

Admittedly Corel VideoStudio hasn’t had a major update for quite a while now but the current 2023 version is still working just fine on most computers.

Having said that it is still one of my favourite video editing programs although that’s probably because it was one of the first ones I learned to edit with.

In the video below you can see how to make custom lower third graphics using the available tools in the software.

Talking Avatars Will Change The Way You Make Videos – PowerDirector

This is another video covering one of the newer A.I. features that have been introduced into PowerDirector recently.

This one allows you to create a talking head video without your magnificent face being present on the screen.

There are a few ways to go about it so if you don’t feel comfortable about appearing in front of the camera maybe this might be right for you.

DaVinci Resolve 19 (v1.3) Ultimate Beginner Crash Course for NOOBS! [Full Course]

Over the past year or so DaVinci Resolve has undergone quite a few updates and although from the outside not a lot is very different there have been changes.

Of course if you are new to Resolve then that’s really no big deal because you will have nothing to compare!

Anyway if you are relatively new, totally new or are looking to brush up a little then this is the tutorial for you.

It is an entire runthrough for getting yourself up and running effectively in the most current version of DaVinci Resolve.

Create a Spinning Logo Effect – DaVinci Resolve

As is the case with most tutorials from Daniel Batal this is one that is relatively easy to follow.

However the difference is that in it he is completing a highly complex operation.

In a nutshell he is taking a 2D logo and having it display in a 3D space allowing it to spin and move as if it were a 3D object.

The reason I have included it in this weeks post is that it is an exercise that you can probably pull off yourself while at the same time showing just how powerful the Fusion Page in DaVinci Resolve can be.
