How To Write a Script For a YouTube Video
Well we seem to be on the subject of scripts and story this week so here’s one that really delivers what you need to know.
The competition for attention online right now is at a level never seen before in any form of media.
When your video is presented to an audience on any platform (not just YouTube!) at the same time a bunch of other things are being presented at the same time to drag that viewer away.
Once you get that click you have to absolutely lock that viewer in to your video and keep them to the end.
Here’s how.
The Secret to Powerful Storytelling on YouTube
This video covers a subject I haven’t posted about for quite some time now and to be honest I am not really sure why that subject had dropped off my radar.
One of the make break points of any video gaining traction online is that there has to be a story.
There’s really no way around that because we as humans are drawn to stories like moths to a flame.
People often dismiss that concept because they are making videos that they feel don’t really lend themselves to the concept of story.
I had a guy once ask how to include story into the videos he was making about creating raised garden beds!
From the outside that seems not to be the stuff of Hollywood magic!
The simple trick I showed him was to stop making videos that show how to make a garden bed.
Instead tell a story of how he wanted to make a garden bed and this was his journey in doing so.
Suddenly his videos gained traction and he was off and running.
The video below focusses on an important part of that proces, the creation of desire and is well worth watching.
End Video Preview Lag Once and For All – PowerDirector
Kicking around somewhere else on this week’s Friday Roundup is a video about handling previews and programs lagging with Filmora.
Seems like everyone is on this bandwagon this week because Maliek from PowerDirector University is also covering this one.
I think between the two you should have enough tools, tricks and tips to get your editor running as smooth as butter!
How to Fix Laggy Playback in Filmora 14
Even though the title suggests specific tips and tricks for handling laggy playback in Filmora, the information applies regardless of what software you are using.
Nine times out of ten laggy palyback or even crashes originate from either the computer or the operating system and very rarely come form the editing software itself.
The reason most people think it’s the software’s problem is because at the time of the trouble they are staring at the software… so that MUST be the problem!

In the meantime here are some steps you can take.
How to Upload Video YouTube Step by Step 2025
Well it’s been a while since I posted anything on the current state of uploading video to YouTube so it’s probably time.
I must admit that the YouTube interface seems to have settled down a bit over the past year so there may not be many changes.
Anyway it’s always a good idea to run through the process with a fresh perspective just in case.
The Secret to Smooth Transitions: It’s All in the Prep
I wanted to add the video below to this week’s Friday Roundup because it is a subject close to my heart!
One of the key selling points popular video editing software packages use is inevitable the claim of packing thousands of preset transitions.
They make it sound as though that’s a huge feature and totally worth the price of entry.
I edit professionally and use a number of well known editing programs depending on my mood or the project I am working on.
The number of pre-packaged transitions I use and have ever used is probably about three… maybe four!
I will use cuts (no transition), fades (always adjusting the timing), some kind of barn door thingy (rarely), some kind of wipe thingy and right now I can’t think of any more.
In reality pro editors almost never use preset transitions and opt for crafting their own on an individual basis.
In the video below you can get a look at that process and how real transitions are generally made and used plus gain a little insight into the thought process behind them.
DaVinci Resolve 20 – Complete Tutorial For Beginners (2025)!
Quite few creators have recently posted full guides on how to get started in DaVinci Resolve 20 since its release.
Most of those guides have tended a little towards existing users and getting them up to speed on the new version or concentrating on new features.
That’s fine in itself but I was waiting for one from the guys at Primal Video because whenever they put out a new “How to,” it is always aimed squarely at the complete noob!
So without further ado here’s their complete guide to the new version of DaVinci Resolve 20 for beginners.
How to Add Text to Moving Shots in DaVinci Resolve! – Easy Motion GFX to Spice Up Your Videos
One of the most effective ways to add information or emphasis in your videos is through the use of text or titles.
Of course like anything in the world of video you can overdo it but the bottom line is that it can lift a project up no end.
These days there are multiple ways to actually add that text and by far one of the coolest is to have the text move or follow something in the frame.
In the video below Casey runs through a number of tools and techniques you can use in DaVinci Resolve to create these effects.
