The Friday Roundup – Jump Cuts, Action Videos and Masks

What is a Jump Cut? 5 Ways to Use Jump Cuts in Video

Many years ago kids before the advent of things like YouTube the Jump Cut was quite an uncommon occurrence.

They were used very sparingly as a means by which to create an effect but due to their tendency to be jarring to the audience, “sparingly” would be an understatement.

The only other time a jump cut appeared was when the filmmaker had royally messed up and added two shots in a row with almost no difference between them.

By that I mean no change of character, no change of scene and probably most importantly, no change of 30° or more in the shooting angle.

These days we have become accustomed to them through sheer repetition with a great many YouTube videos merrily jump cutting their way through life!

Anyway there are things you can do with a jumpcut and things you may want to avoid.

In the article linked below you can see all of that stuff.

It is a solid strategy based on fundamental YouTube principles.

In reality most of these tips and tricks are independent of any video editing software in particular.

How to Deactivate a Device in Wondershare Filmora

When you purchase a copy of Filmora you can install it on a few different computers BUT!

You can only have one active instance of the program running at any given time.

This may mean that you need to deactivate a device occasionally to get another active.

You can do this using the software interface or by going to the Wondershare site and doing it inside you account.

The video below covers how to approach the whole task.

DaVinci Resolve 17 (or any editor for that matter) Subject Map

If you are looking at getting yourself up to a pro or at least semi-pro level of skill on DaVinci Resolve then this is a great resource.

As Casey points out in the video below, Resolve has a gazillion things you can learn but the real question is what to learn and in what order.

You can waste a lot of time flappin’ about learning a bunch of things you may never really use or only use rarely.

With the road map Casey lays out here you can make a little more sense of it all and follow a logical path.
